How to calculate a discount
Multiply the price by (1 − discount ÷ 100). A 25% discount on 120 is 120 × 0.75 = 90.
Stacked discounts don't add up
"25% off plus an extra 10%" is not 35% off. The second discount applies to the already-reduced price: 120 × 0.75 × 0.90 = 81, which is 32.5% off in total. This calculator shows the true combined discount.
Frequently asked questions
Is tax added before or after the discount?
In most places sales tax is charged on the discounted price, which is how this calculator works.
How do I find the original price from the sale price?
Divide the sale price by (1 − discount ÷ 100). If 90 is the price after 25% off, the original was 90 ÷ 0.75 = 120.
